Is Geva Summer Aircademy a good fit for my student?
Summer Aircademy: Geva’s Online Summer Conservatory is distilled from the mission and intention of 23 years of Geva’s original Academy program, which offers conservatory-style training to select young artists ages 12-18 who are seriously considering theatre as a possible career avenue. While fun and inspiring, Geva’s online conservatory program is not a summer theatre camp.
The program as a whole, and each individual course, carries expectations for faculty and students alike for excellence in the craft including professionalism, commitment, maturity, self-discipline, preparedness, and an open mind to deeper thinking, new approaches and ideas, and differing perspectives.
Summer Aircademy is designed for students who are self-motivated to increase their knowledge and skills through perseverance, challenging and detailed work independently and among teacher and peers, devoted study outside of class hours, students who are eager to dive in to exploring, contemplating, and discussing complex topics and materials, and young artists who are ready to transform their relationship with theatre, with teachers, directors, and fellow actors, and with themselves.
Geva’s online conservatory courses are appropriate for students with years of experience and students new to the art of theatre. Regardless of the level of prior experience or training, students who thrive in Academy are ready to take responsibility for their own learning and ideas, and truly serve as engaged participants. They are prepared to rise to the challenge of a rigorous theatre training program and put aside competitiveness and judgement of self and others, and actively help facilitate an environment of vulnerability, trust, and artistic risk taking.
Please consider your student’s readiness for this program carefully before enrolling to ensure they are committed not only to the time and effort their courses will require throughout the summer, but also to pursuing personal artistic growth, and evaluate what tools and processes they hope to come away with this summer.
For these reasons, we also recommend that students do not sign up for every course offered. Each class will require class time, as well as outside time to complete independent study and projects. So each student can make the most of their experience with us this summer, we recommend selecting the few courses that you are most interested in exploring and contemplating if the time commitment required for those courses both inside and outside of class time (along with other personal or family obligations), is feasible for your schedule. The Aircademy recommends enrollment in no more than 3 multi-week classes.
